L'histoire se déroule dans un monde peuplé d'humains et d'êtres « divins », les Tenzokus. Ces derniers, qui sont invisibles pour la plupart des êtres humains, ont la capacité d'accorder leur bénédiction aux villes et villages et sont donc vénérés comme des dieux. Toutefois, au fils du temps, certains Tenzokus ont perdu foi en l'humanité et se sont retirés, laissant la malveillance s'installer dans le cœur des hommes. Sorey, un humain élevé par des Tenzokus, arrive un jour dans le monde des humains et découvre que tout y est très différent par rapport à son village d'origine. Il va alors devenir le Doushi (Berger), afin de purifier ce monde et vaincre la source de ce chaos : le Seigneur des Calamités.
